Bartow AR Murals

Overview

A $100K city collaboration presenting location-based augmented reality experiences overlaid onto public murals throughout Bartow, Florida. The app functions as both an interactive tool and city tour—visitors unlock immersive AR experiences at each mural site, while navigation features highlight local businesses and points of interest between locations.

Process

The team conducted extensive community engagement through stakeholder meetings, public presentations, and feedback sessions with the Bartow Community Redevelopment Agency. Development followed a full cycle—user stories, visualizations, and iterative design informed by community input.

Teams performed on-site scanning using Scaniverse photogrammetry and LiDAR equipment from Access3D Lab at USF to capture spatial data for anchoring AR content to mural locations. Four distinct AR overlay experiences were created across the city, connected through a map-based interface.
